What a great winter we just had and with the spring season right around the corner, I thought we needed a quick recap of the past winter season.

So I introduce you, for the first time, The Register Citizen Top 10 List!

Part I- #10 to #6

Eberhardt scored her 1000th point in amazing fashion.

10. 1000th Point scorers
This season saw some players score their 1000th career point during the season or during the playoffs.
Nonnewaug's senior, Katie Burke scored her 1000th point against Terryville on January 22nd. Burke had a sensational senior season, finishing in the top 3 in scoring in the Berkshire League.
Thomaston senior, Maggie Eberhardt drilled her 1000th career point in the Berkshire League semifinals game against Northwestern. Eberhardt who was 14 points away from 1000, scored 15 points, all 3-pointers, in the first quarter to eclipse the career total and led her team to victory. This will not be the last time you see the Thomaston girls basketball team on this list.

Terryville's Tyler Trillo, who is only a junior. No way only a junior you say?
Yes way, scored his 1000th career point in the Class S Quarterfinals against Old Lyme. Though the Kangaroos lost, Trillo and most of their team will be back for next season.

9. Northwestern swimming brings home Berkshire League Title
For the first time since 1997, Northwestern was crowned the top team in the Berkshire League. The Highlanders fought back from a 29-point deficit against Shepaug to take home the Championship.
Northwestern top the lead after the 11th event and never looked back.

8. Former Torrington swimmer, Ray Cswerko goes to Division-II National Championships
Cswerko finished eight at the NCAA Championship in the 400 IM and received All-American honors for it. He also was an eight-time winner of the NE-10's swimmer of the week.

7. Wamogo boys basketball stages comeback against Nonnewaug
In the first game of the boys Berkshire League tournament, the Warriors were down nine points with 1:50 remaining in the game. Then began a chain of events that you had to have seen to believe.
-Nick Nemergut hits a 3-pointer with 1:45 left to make it a six point game, 49-43
-Nonnewaug missed three straight one and one chances within the final two minutes

-Doug Whipple hits a layup with 21 seconds left to pull the game within two points
-The Warriors Mark Davis goes to line, hits one of two free-throws to make is a 49-48 game, with Nonnewaug leading.
-Wamogo forces a turnover the next time down the court and during the transition  the Chiefs left Whipple alone under the net, who laid the ball up for the win with 1.8 seconds left.
"I just wanted to make the shot," said Whipple, after the game.

6. Wolcott Tech honors Tim Considine
Tim Considine was a local coach in the Torrington area, who passed away from ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease in October.
The idea of the game/event came from Wolcott Tech sophomore basketball player Matthew Dell'Agnese. From what his mother Dawn told me before the game, Matt played for Tim and really wanted to do something for his former coach.
The event was great, a few close friends of Tim and even his wife Cheryl spoke between games.
