This is the second part of the Top 10 moments of the 2012-2013 Winter athletic season. If you need a refresher, No. 10-6 are here.

So without further ado the rest of the Top 10 list.

5. Sarah Royals and the Albany Great Danes.
Royals a former, Torrington Red Raider, the only underclassman starter in the lineup for the Great Danes, help lead her team to an 28-4 overall record this season and a first-round loss, in the NCAA Tournament, at the hands of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Albany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, about what Royals brings to the game.

“She has toughness, grit, work ethic, fire and has a passion for the game. She made it tough for me to keep her out of the lineup.”

4. Jack Wassik and his NVL championship performance
Wassik, put on a show at this season's NVL swimming championships. With his performance, Wassik helped lead the Red Raiders to an overall 3rd place finish.
He placed first in the 200-yard freestyle, first in the 500-yard freestyle and was part of the first place relay team in the 200-yard freestyle relay along with Matt Traub, Griffin Pelkey and Bradley Nichols, also known as "The Storm."

3. Northwestern boys basketball finishing 24-1
The Highlanders boys basketball team started the season with 24 straight wins before falling to No. 9 Bloomfield in a Quarterfinals game in the Class M State Tournament.
The team's biggest strength was their depth, three or four guys, who came off their bench would have been starters on most of the teams in the Berkshire League.
Their whole team worked as a team better than any other team in the BL.
Though they are probably still a little disappointed that their season didn't end the way they wanted it to. They will look back when they get a little older and hopefully understand how special their season was.

2. Torrington girls basketball wins NVL title
After five straight second-place finishes in the NVL the Red Raiders finally got over the hill. With 1.9 seconds left on the clock, Caroline Teti found Megan Calabrese under the hoop for the game-winning basket, 40-38. It capped off a great overall season by the Red Raiders, would go 1-1 in the Class L State Championships and finish the season at 20-5.

Now the number 1 moment of the Winter sports season is...

1. Thomaston girls basketball's run to the sun
Headed by two strong senior leaders in Maggie Eberhardt and Sydney Keith the Golden Bears captured the hearts of their small town, with their run to the Class S State Championship game at Mohegan Sun. The Golden Bears lost two games all season, both to BL rival Northwestern, were strong throughout their whole lineup. With two All-State players, Eberhardt and Abby Hurlbert, and a deep bench which included both Charlie Eberhardt and Gabby Hurlbert, they're the younger sisters of Maggie and Abby if you haven't put that together yet.
They were led by a very good coach in Bob McMahon who would probably run through a cement wall for his players and that showed when he had the team carry Maggie and Sydney off the court after their loss to Capital Prep in the finals.

I hope you all enjoyed the list and please feel to leave comments or tweet at me and let me know what you thought.
