Torrington Boys Swimming Continue Tradition

Tonight I covered the Torrington boys swimming hair dye event, it was the first time I had ever covered a sporting event like that, but I am glad I covered it.

It was a great event to attend, all the members of the swim team were excited to be there, they were excited to get their hair dyed, they loved being part of a tradition that has been around for 20 years and mostly they loved doing it as a team.

Mike Hodge, who is a freshmen on the team was excited to be apart of the event, because he said he was "feeling like part of the team."

Hodge wasn't the only member of the team to feel this way.

Gilberto Rivera, a junior, told me "I love my team."

All three captains on the team Kevin Finn, Christopher Shea and Anthony Parziales reiterated what their teammates said about it doing it as a team.

"It becomes a part of you," said Shea, who had his whole head dyed red for the last time after being on the team for four years.

That was the atmosphere of the event and as an outside you could definitely feel it.

The players even tried to convince their own head coach Andrew Marchand to dye his hair red with the rest of the team. But Marchand reminded them that he had done this when he was a member of the Torrington swimming team in the early 90's and that was enough for him.

Overall it was a special event and something that will continue for many more years to come.

Here are some photos from the event that I thought were quite funny and needed to be shown to the world:

"So you're saying I need more red."

"I wonder if they're going to use the good smelling conditioner."

"Yo man what's your Instagram name, I got to tag us in this pic?"

"Are you sure this looks good?"

LOVED this! It's great that the tradition includes their own head coach.
